Dental Crowns and Bridges: Reclaim Your Healthy, Functional Smile

Although teeth are meant to last for life, sometimes, that’s not always the case. Decay, injuries, and natural tooth wear can compromise teeth. Dental bridges and crowns in Wayne, New Jersey, can restore your smile’s function and aesthetics. Expertly designed and placed by Drs. Behshad Ahkami and Steven Reff, dental bridges and crowns fit comfortably and look natural. Your smile will be as real as it can be!

What are dental crowns?

On occasion, your tooth may need a tooth filling. But what if the damage is significant? A dental crown can be a solution. A dental crown is a custom restoration worn over the remaining tooth structure to enhance strength and aesthetics.

Here are circumstances in which you may need a dental crown.

  • To restore your tooth when a dental filling is inadequate.
  • To protect your tooth after endodontic treatment.
  • To repair a tooth that’s severely decayed or damaged.
  • To support a traditional bridge.
  • To aesthetically improve a severely stained, rotated, or misshapen tooth.
  • To cover a dental implant.

Dental crowns can be made from several materials, including metal. Our crowns are made from durable, durable ceramics that blend seamlessly with your smile. Unlike all-metal dental crowns of the past, our crowns are virtually indistinguishable from the surrounding teeth.

What are dental bridges?

Whereas dental crowns repair teeth, dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth in a row. The dental bridge consists of prosthetic teeth customized to span the gap left by missing teeth. Traditional bridges are reinforced by dental crowns placed on the natural teeth (abutments) on either side of the gap. However, patients can opt for implant bridges secured in the jawbone with a titanium fixture. Implant-supported bridges are stable and allow you to restore your smile without altering your otherwise healthy teeth.

Like dental crowns, you have several choices of materials to fabricate your bridge. We’ll help you choose the material that best fits your functionality, aesthetics, and other unique needs. Rest assured, your bridgework will be strong, durable, and realistic-looking.

What can I expect from dental bridge and crown treatment?

Traditional bridges and crowns can take several weeks and even months to place. This prolongs your discomfort and means days of smiling and talking less often because of insecurity. Our office has invested in CEREC technology, allowing us to plan and place your bridges and crowns in a single appointment.

Your treatment starts with a consultation to establish your eligibility for crowns and bridges. The dentist will then take precise teeth measurements to ensure your restorations fit snugly. Using a computer-assisted design (CAD) unit, the dentist will design your bridge and crowns and use the in-house milling machine to fabricate your restorations as you wait.

Often, the dentist makes a few adjustments to your bridge and crowns to ensure optimal alignment and comfortable fit. Once everything matches your expectations, the dentist bonds your restoration to your teeth with dental adhesives. Your smile is now complete, and you can now smile and eat confidently.
