CEREC Dentistry Allows us to Design and Place Restorations in a Single Appointment

Glow Dental Spa understands time is of the essence when you need a crown or bridge. Drs. Behshad Ahkami and Steven Reff offer CEREC dental restorations, which allow us to plan, design, manufacture, and place dental crowns, bridges, or other restorations in a single appointment. There are no temporaries or multiple dental trips. You’ll leave our Wayne, New Jersey, office with a permanent restoration designed to enhance function as much as aesthetics!

How do CEREC dental restorations work?

CEREC in full means chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics, but if that’s a mouthful, you can stick to CEramic REConstruction. This innovative technology uses advanced hardware and software to allow us to design, fabricate, and place your restorations in a single visit.

CEREC can be used to craft the following restorations.

How does CEREC dentistry compare with traditional dentistry?

Traditional dental work typically requires multiple appointments to restore your smile. Initially, your dentist takes bite impressions, which are then sent to an offsite dental lab for fabrication. Since restoration takes days, the dentist will fit a provisional crown, veneer, or filling to your prepped teeth. These temporaries can be a turn-off because they rarely fit well, and you must “baby” them while you wait for the permanent restoration.

Once the dentist receives your appliance, you’ll book another appointment for placement. You’ll be lucky if your restoration only needs a few adjustments to fit well. Otherwise, it must be sent to the dental lab again, prolonging your treatment.

In contrast, CEREC restorations are planned, designed, fabricated, and placed in the office. The dentist is directly involved from start to finish, ensuring that each aspect of the restoration is tailored to your unique dental needs. This personalized attention allows for precise adjustments during the design and milling phases, resulting in a restoration that looks natural and fits perfectly.

How do CEREC dental restorations work?

Placing CEREC restorations is quick and seamless because the entire process can be completed in-house. CEREC fabricates your restorations using top-of-the-line computer-assisted design/manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technologies.

The process starts with a digital scan of your mouth. There is no room for messy, gooey-filled impression trays. The dentist then creates a 3D tooth model and uses the CAD unit to design your restoration. Once your design is out, the dentist will use the milling unit to manufacture your restoration from a ceramic block. This fabrication only takes 15-30 minutes! Once your crown, onlay, or bridge is out, we’ll immediately bond it to your teeth. Only a few adjustments are required since CEREC restorations are created with excellent precision.

Benefits of CEREC restorations.

  • Single-visit convenience.
